Sandstone and Limestone are often used as building blocks because they can be cut easily.
Shale can be crushed to make bricks.
Limestone can also be crushed to produce lime, which is used in mortar, cement and plaster.
Coal is used as a fuel, and as a source of raw material for making plastics.
Some evaporites are used as fertilisers, rock salt is mined and crushed for table salt.
