A lever is simple machine that uses the turning effect of a force to make a task easier.

a lever has three parts
  • the fulcrum  
    • this is the pivot or turning point   
  • the load 
    • this is the force which we are trying to overcome. Often it is the weight of some object. 
  • the effort.  
    • this is the force we apply to move the load.
