Scientists have long been interested in sunspots. You can click on the link to find out more about them.The number of spots observed on the sun varies from year to year.

Your task is to use this Excel spreadsheet to find out the following.

  • Is there a pattern in the number of sunspots over the years? Hint. Use the xy scatter graphing function.
  • Have there been periods in history when the maximum number of sunspots was high or low?
