The Parallax Method Maths

The angle a is the angle through which the telescope is moved to make the summer and winter measurements. It is actually difficult to measure this accurately.
An imaginary perpendicular from the star to the sun bisects a. Since the distance between the sun and eath is known, the distance between the star and the earth can be calculated using trigonometry.
This method is only accurate for fairly near stars. The angle a is actually quite small, and becomes even more difficult to measure as the distance increases.
