Microscopes are used for looking at things that are too small to be seen with the eye alone.
There are two kinds that we use in the school laboratory.
    They are the

    • Monocular microscope and the
    • Stereo microscope
These two microscopes use beams of light focussed through lenses to create an image of the object being studied.

Electron microsopes can be used to look at objects too small to be seen with light microscopes. The University of Queensland has one. Click on the link to go to it.

The Molecular Expressions site is also excellent. You can choose to view objects using a magnifying or an electron microscope .
